You Are What you Eat


Have you ever heard the phrase “You are what you eat?” Well its 100% true! A diet full of protein, fresh fruits and vegetables, wholefoods and healthy fats will leave you feeling great and performing at your best!


Sounds easy enough, right? Then why do so many Canadians struggle with figuring out how to eat or what to eat? The answer is actually pretty simple; As a society we have actually become so inundated by the amount of nutrition advice and information available, it has become overwhelming!


Keto, Paleo, Carnivore, Vegetarian, Intermittent Fasting, Atkins, Whole 30, Low Calorie and Low Fat are just a few of the hundreds of diets floating around! So with so many different opinions to choose from its understandable that we might begin to second guess everything we do.


The good news though is eating healthy can actually be quite simple by following a few tips:


1. Avoid quick fixes and diets. To see results and achieve long term success you need to make

nutrition a lifestyle. So follow a plan that is easy to implement, fits well with your daily life and

something you can commit to long-term.


2. Reduce or eliminate processed foods. Although quick and convenient; most fast foods, baked goods, frozen entrees, fruit juices, boxed and canned foods tend to be high in sugar, sodium and saturated fats which are all linked to health conditions such as obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Instead opt for lots of fresh vegetables, proteins, fruits and whole grain foods.


3. Drink Water. Not only does it keep you hydrated; Water also increases your energy levels,

improves your skins complexion, assists in detoxifying the body of toxins and helps with weight

loss and management.


4. Portion Control. To avoid over eating try to avoid skipping meals and ensuring that you eat

regularly throughout the day. You can also use The Plate Method is also a useful tool in

visualizing what your dinner plate should look like.


5. Plan Ahead. Planning out meals and creating a grocery lists are a great way to set yourself up for success. If you travel a lot for work or have lots of lunch meetings; try checking out the

restaurant menus in advance. Many places are more than happy to modify your meal for you or substitute fries for a salad or vegetables.

Nutrition and a healthy lifestyle should not be a stressful journey! Use the support of your friends, family or health professional for meal ideas and advice. With all the different options available, pick a plan that works best for you; because remember “You are what you Eat”
